Running Accomplishments:

2006 Salt Lake Half-Marathon (2:23; my first one); 2006 Hobblecreek Half (2:09); 2006 St. George Marathon (My first marathon!  Finishing was the goal, and I'm happy to say that I wasn't even close to the last one!); 2008 Provo Riverwoods 10 miler (1:49); 2008 Hobblecreek Half Marathon 2:07.

Short-Term Running Goals:

March 2009 Moab Half Marathon; May 2009 Ogden Marathon Goal: 4:30; 2009 Hobblecreek Half 2:00

2009 Run the St. George Marathon or the Top of Utah Marathon.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running as a priority in my life.  I initially started running because I told myself "there are no fat runners" (not meaning to offend anyone--just needed something to help me get fit after 4 babies!)  Then I started discovering not only the health benefits of running but the psychological benefits!  These were the icing on the cake!  Running makes me happy, it makes me funner, it makes me feel so much better about myself, etc., etc..  There are way too many benefits to ever give up!  I may never win a race, but I am happy and make life better for my family because of this little piece of time I take for myself!

Personal:

I've been married for 18 years and have 4 fabulously cute boys (15, 12, 10, 6).  I love running, reading, volleyball, scuba diving, gardening, cooking, and hanging out with my family.

41 minutes on the elliptical.  Does anyone know how to convert this to running miles?  The elliptical keeps track of miles, but it's very different from actual running.

You could ask Sasha, but my guess is that you would probably divide the time by how it feels. Does it feel like a 12 min mile running? 14 min mile? Does that make sense?

How is your head? I hope you are feeling better. I have resigned my self to the fact that I may be on decongestants the whole winter. Good thing they are cheep ;)

A miracle happened today!  I got into the Moab Half Marathon!!!!!! Yippee!!!! It truly was the flukiest miracle ever! Growing up in Moab paid off!

THE WEATHER IS SO BEAUTIFUL TODAY I CAN HARDLY STAND IT! SPRING IS COMING. . .

Pounded out the miles today!  Had to take off my jacket for the first time this winter!  Then had to take off the warm pants after 7 miles and just run in leggings.  What a nice change!

Kim - I was blog stalking and noticed that you had just posted, so I checked out your blog and I must say CONGRATS! I have a friend that was committed to running a half (never done more than 8 in her life) and said she would only do the Moab one, so when she couldn't get in she gave up on her goal all together, so I'm really jealous of you, because I really wanted her to train and run long runs with me. We always have too much to talk about. Enjoy the race and pass a few 'fat ladies' for me. Okay, I should explain myself. I laughed when I read your running goals, because when I run my motivation for pushing myself is seeing someone 'fatter' than me in front of me. My first 1/2 my friend made me a sign (at mile 12) that said "Fat lady ahead!" and it gave me the strength to push through and a smile to go along with it. No offense intended to anyone reading this!! If you saw me (especially 50 pounds ago when I ran my first race) you'd know I mean no offense. Okay, since this is now the longest 'comment' ever, I'll leave you! Have fun at the race, there are many of us who are jealous!!

Didn't take my garmin--just ran.  I'm not sure when I left, but got home a lot earlier than I planned. Nice weather!

Decided to find a different race plan for the Ogden Marathon. Used the Smart Coach on Runner's World.  Like the plan very much!  We'll see how it goes!

This long run felt like a loooooong run!  Just one of those days when it just doesn't feel good!  Got to do the first 5 with Marion & Trisha and then Trisha and I did the last five.  Those last 5 were the worst!

Gotta eat better and drink more water!

Hope Moab Half doesn't feel like today's run!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

So, today was the first day of speedwork that I've done in a long time!  My goal, per my training schedule, was to run 5 miles with two 1600's at a 9:02 pace. Well, it didn't work out exactly how I had planned!  First of all, I didn't read my schedule very good and thought I was supposed to do the 1600's in 9:11. Second of all, I'm a wimp and hate to push myself beyond my comfort zone--which this was. And thirdly, now I know how important speed work is!

Anyway, here's the breakdown:

Average Pace: 10:53; Best Pace 7:05

Lap 1- 11:57 (1 mile); Lap 2- 10:12 (.52 miles); Lap 3- 9:17 (.98 miles); Lap 4-11:07 (1 mile); Lap 5- 10:50 (.19 miles); Lap 6- 9:06 (1 mile); Lap 7-16:01 (.47 miles)

Did these miles on the dreadmill! I run sooo much slower on the treadmill! I don't know what my problem is! I was supposed to do 3 miles at 9:34--NOT EVEN! I did 4X400 at 8:30. That's as good as it got!

Glad to read that you are running!! Any goal in mind? Are you running Moab, since you are a Moabite? I am running Antelope Island 50K (yes I am for sure now 100percent crazy).

From Kim R on Thu, Feb 19, 2009 at 11:13:46

Hi Julie! Yup--still running! And yes--you are officially CRAZY! A 50K!!! Your an amazing runner--you'll be able to do it no problem! It's just a few miles past the marathon!

I'm doing Moab Half and Ogden Marathon in May! Gotta keep on runnin'. . .

This was my first time running Moab Half Marathon. It ended up being a lot harder than I anticipated. I think I was just having a bad race day inspite of all the things I did to prepare. Maybe my run the day before was bad--I don't know. I just felt so tired for the last 5 miles.

After feeling "burned out" with running, I decided to take a day and do something else. 40 minutes of Yoga and Belly Dancing did the trick. My legs feel tired and I'm happy to be inside my warm house. Maybe I'll do some weights tonight.

Also did 20 pushups and 30 situps. Not many, but something!
